His Excellency Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia has sent a message of condolences to the family of the late Mr. Request Muntanga, the former member of Parliament for Kalomo constituency.
President Lungu says Mr. Muntanga was a veteran lawmaker who contributed immensely to the development of democracy in Zambia through his fierce debates in the National Assembly of Zambia.
The Head of State says the late veteran politician expressed his views as strongly as he possibly felt and in a manner that helped energize the quality of debates in the House. “He believed in his views and he inspired younger parliamentarians. His virtues must be
celebrated by those who seek a career in politics as parliamentarians,” President Lungu said. “I remember him well. I remember his tenacity in upholding his views when he rose on the
floor of the House. We were on the opposite sides of the debates but I still admired some of his prolific performances. I am saddened to learn of his demise,” the President said. “On behalf of my family, party and Government, I wish to convey deep condolences to the
family of the departed veteran politician, the opposition United Party for National Development, and all his relatives and friends.”
The President urged all mourners to honour the memory of Mr. Muntanga by celebrating his life in dignity. “We wish his family in particular, God’s favour during this moment of their great loss.”
